Honey Garlic Shrimp is at the top of my kids list of favorite weeknight meals. With minimal prep and a short marinate time, it really couldn’t be easier to throw together this shrimp recipe!

How to make the best Honey Garlic Shrimp
The key to this recipe is in the sauce and in how you cook it, so let me show you how it’s done!
Start by using fully defrosted shrimp, and then peeling them. If your shrimp is not fully defrosted when you add the marinade it will simply water it down as it continues to defrost and you really don’t want that.
You do not have to leave the tails on, I just did that so it would look nice in the photos but in all honesty it’s much easier to eat the whole thing with the tails off.
Mix together the honey, garlic, and soy sauce and then pour over about three tablespoons of the marinade over the shrimp in a bowl and cover and place back in the fridge for 30 minutes. Keep the rest of the marinade to make the sauce later on.
Then when you’re ready to cook, drain the shrimp from the marinade it’s in and discard that liquid.
Then add a little oil to the skillet and heat it to medium high.
Cook the shrimp in a single layer for just a couple of minutes per side or until the shrimp are just cooked, they will turn pink as they cook. Then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
Next, add the marinade you kept earlier to the hot skillet and cook it for about five to seven minutes over a low – medium heat. It might froth up a bit at first, that’s totally fine! You really want to avoid burning it so don’t turn the heat up too much.
As you cook it, the sauce will thicken up. Once it’s thickened simply remove it from the heat and toss in the cooked shrimp to warm through and serve hot!
How do I defrost Shrimp?
It’s really easy and there are generally two ways to do it.
The first and best way is to simply defrost the shrimp in the fridge overnight. It does require a little forethought and planning, but I think it’s the optimum way to do it.
The second way is much faster and works well too. All you need to do is add the frozen shrimp to a large bowl of cold water, do not use hot water!
It will defrost in about 30 minutes or so.

-
After the fifteen minutes has passed drain and discard the three tablespoons of marinade from the shrimp.
-
Cook the drained shrimp for a few minutes each side in a hot skillet with a little olive oil, until they turn pink.
-
Remove the cooked shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
-
Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet and cook for about 3-5 minutes in a medium hot skillet, do not have it too hot or you will burn the sauce. It may foam and froth up initially, this is normal.
-
Once the sauce has thickened up a little add back the shrimp and warm it through for up to one minute, serve hot and use optional garnish of chopped parsley or green onions.
